Musical of Musicals (the Musical!) runs from April 8th to May 17th and great seats are still available!
In this hilarious satire of musical theatre, one story is turned into five mini musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander & Ebb.
In Corn!, the first mini-musical, the story is set in Kansas in August, in the way Rodgers and Hammerstein might have imagined it, complete with defiantly not-in-love lovers and a dream ballet. A Little Complex, the next mini-musical is a pitch-perfect re-telling in the style of Sondheim - the landlord is a tortured, artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge because they don't appreciate his art. The Jerry Herman-inspired Dear Abby is a splashy star vehicle, while the Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque Aspects of Junita is a rock musical with catchy and oft-recycled musical themes borrowed from Puccini. Speakeasy moves the the story to Chicago and tells it one last time in the dance-heavy cabaret style of Kander and Ebb.
